Capital Campaign:
The Ultimate Coming Attraction!
The Denis Theatre Foundation is currently in the first phase of a two-phase capital campaign to raise a total of $4.5 million to purchase, renovate and reopen the Denis Theatre. (Click here for the Capital Campaign Leadership.)
Acclaimed international artist (and Pittsburgh native) Burton Morris recently designed ORIGINAL art
(see image to the right) in support of our Capital Campaign. Created to represent that the Denis is first and last a cinema, the artwork also conveys that the Denis will be much more than cinema alone. We will present performances, presentations, lectures, and visual art. We will offer educational programs, meeting spaces, and a lounge for relaxing with friends. As Burton's art indicates, the Denis will be a place that is full of life and activity, one that celebrates film and art.
Phase I ($2.5 million) is where a lot of "behind-the-scenes" work will happen, with an end result of opening the Encore Theatre. We will upgrade, replace and improve HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, make the building handicapped accessible, renovate the lobby and concession area, and ... reopen the upstairs theater! (Target goal for completion: late 2012/early 2013.)
Phase II ($2 million) will renovate the back of the theater, opening two more screens, meeting spaces, a performance area, and a cafe. Anticipated to be complete in 2015, Phase II of the capital campaign will occur in tandem with the operation of the theater renovated in Phase I.
